ASTER acquire high-resolution (15m) images of the Earth in the visible, near-infrared (VNIR) regions. Thanks to this capacity, a reflector of known property can be put on the ground to monitor behavior of atmosphere, thereby materializing highly accurate correction to the sensor.
Adjacent effects on reflectance, however, increase in proportion of spatial resolution; and thus, well-considered planning is required for performing atmospheric correction
Atmosphere and Atmospheric Correction Working Group, in collaboration with the US counterpart, develops algorithms to obtain surface radiance and surface emissivity with ASTER's characteristics considered.
