Temperature-Emissivity Separation WG

Chair : Shuichi Rokugawa, Univ. of Tokyo

ASTER consists of three telescope subsystems: VNIR, SWIR, and TIR. Of those three, TIR covers five spectrum bands with spatial resolution of 90m; spectral resolution of 0.35 m for three of the five bands and 0.7 m for the other two; radiometric resolution of 0.3K(NET) . No other current multi-band sensors match to ASTER in spatial or spectral resolution. Furthermore, this will be the first endeavor for the entire world to mount a sensor with such capacity onto a satellite.

T-E separation Working Group, in cooperation with the U.S. counterpart, develops algorithms featuring the above-mentioned characteristics of ASTER to compute surface temperature and surface radiation, and design schemes for validation. Products to be produced using a T-E separation algorithm will be distributed as Standard Data Products- Level 2B03 and Level 2B04- to the user community.
